Job Summary

THIS POSITION IS THIRD SHIFT

The Maintenance Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of mechanical equipment and systems at the pellet mill facility. Working under the guidance of more experienced technicians, this position supports preventive maintenance routines, equipment inspections, and minor repairs on production machinery and facility infrastructure. This role is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude looking to grow within a skilled industrial maintenance team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, filter changes, and visual inspections of conveyors, motors, gearboxes, pellet mills, and other equipment.
  • Support senior technicians with mechanical disassembly, parts replacement, and reassembly during repairs.
  • Respond to basic equipment issues by tightening belts, replacing worn parts, or cleaning machine components.
  • Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Report equipment concerns, potential failures, or observed hazards to maintenance leadership promptly.
  • Learn and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to maintenance and equipment safety.
  • Complete assigned maintenance logs or checklists accurately.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE use, and hot work procedures.

Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in an industrial, mechanical, or maintenance role preferred (vocational training may substitute).
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic mechanical concepts.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, including nights and weekends, if required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic mechanical understanding of gears, belts, bearings, and drives.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and ask questions when unsure.
  • Ability to use wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and other basic tools safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational habits.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Commitment to safety and a desire to develop in the maintenance trade.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, and climb ladders or stairs throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to work at heights above 6 feet and in confined spaces as needed.
  • Must be able to tolerate a manufacturing environment with heat, dust, noise, and vibration.
  • Must be able to wear PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and steel-toed boots.
  • Must be able to perform work capabilities at height levels of six feet and higher with the use of proper ladders or designated equipment
  • Must be able to work at various heights and in tight or enclosed spaces
