Job Summary

Responsible for providing supervisory support for the receiving operation of the business. Manage the receipt and immediate movement of product containers, raw material, freight packages, and supplies for storage or use.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision of receiving activities to include the efficient and timely receipt and unloading of shipping containers and tankers, as well as the movement of content and material for use or storage. 
  • Provide dispatch oversight to commercial truck driver team.
  • Monitor and track towards achievement of key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate timely equipment and staffing to ensure the efficient operation of the department.
  • Maintain a safety-first culture through the effective communicate and enforcement of safety standards; ensure workspace is 5S compliant.
  • Foster and maintain a continuous improvement environment.
  • Interface with contract labor force and coordinate assignments.
  • Serve as an internal resource for users of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) as appropriate; ensure the system is maintained and users are properly trained.
  • Routinely inspect the physical condition of the receiving operation, vehicle fleet, and/or equipment; order testing, maintenance, repairs, and/or replacements as necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for the department; and assist in the preparation of correspondence, reports, operations, maintenance, and safety manuals.
  • Monitor expenditures; may assist in the preparation and management of the annual budget.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of the assigned receiving team. Provide leadership and direction to members of the department, performing those responsibilities in accordance with the established policies and applicable laws. Responsible for participating in interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning or directing work, appraising performance, disciplining team members and resolving problems. Work with Human Resources to resolve more complex team member-related issues.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education:   

  • High School Diploma or completion of GED equivalent.


Minimum Work Experience:

  • Five (5) years of progressive warehouse & receiving operations experience. Supervisory experience is preferred.


License(s) / Certification(s):

  • None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the logistics operations with emphasis on the receiving function.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN principles.
  • Proficiency using a Personal Computer (PC) to include associated hardware and software typically used including a Warehouse Management System (i.e. SAP).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong team leadership skills including the ability to effectively supervise a team in a semi-complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to effectively work within established timelines.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to be highly organized.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to work effectively under time and resource constraints.
  • Ability to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and standards of practice.
  • Ability to manage and work within budgetary constraints.
  • Ability to legally operate a passenger and commercial vehicle.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.

Normal warehouse/distribution center environment.
