Job Summary

The Inventory Control Specialist maintains records of materials in inventory and on order. Maintains continued accountability and inventory requirements for corporate assets for assigned department or program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory cycle count program, including planning count sequence, tracking data, counting locations, and directing others as needed to ensure yearly cycle count goals are met.
  • May perform a variety of tasks as assigned via desktop or portable computer including inventory counts, transfers, or adjustments.
  • Counts and reconciles chosen part numbers as directed by item and/or locations on a daily basis
  • Researches inventory discrepancies as needed by review of item movement via computer records
  • Assists in scrap processing, maintenance of lot traceability, proper storage identification or other activities to ensure the inventory system is properly maintained.
  • Works closely with Production, Planning/Scheduling, Shipping, Quality, Purchasing, or other areas/management to meet operational needs and optimize inventory levels.
  • Assists in developing solutions to shortages, overages and inventory discrepancies
  • Compiles, verifies, and reports periodic statistical information to management regarding trends in customer escalations as related to inventory
  • Assists in compiling data related to special projects, as requested by supervisor
  • Lead shift employees in daily responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor in charge.
  • Assist Supervisors with enforcement of company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Lean events and implement continuous improvements.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate system settings for optimization of Warehouse Management System as directed by WMS Administrator
  • Assist in testing, setup, and implementation of special computer system projects to improve efficiency and accuracy of product movement through warehouses and related inventory transactions.
  • Train, coach, and advise employees working in inventory functions regarding proper completion of job duties and expectations.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Flexibility to work any shift for extended periods of time.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or completion of GED equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years warehouse/distribution center inventory control experience.

Licensure/Certification(s):

  • None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Inventory/Cycle Count standards of practice.
  • Good proficiency using a Personal Computer (PC) to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively operate a forklift.
  • Proficiency applying simple math in a work setting.
  • Good communication skills to include the abiltiy to effectively read and write using the English AND Spanish languages
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact persons at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast/high energy paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Normal warehouse/production/distribution center environment.
