Sr. Network Engineer

Job Summary

As a member of the W.C. Bradley Information Technology team, under general supervision, perform a variety of routine and complex technical functions to facilitate network communications across our global enterprise.  Deploy new and support existing network communications systems including, but not limited to: virtual, physical and software defined networking systems; routers and switches; wireless access points and systems; load balancers; firewalls; voice and video conferencing equipment; data center, cloud, server, and client connectivity; voice, data and MPLS circuits; domain name services; IP addressing schemes and network traffic shaping (collectively, “Network Systems”).

The Network Services Engineer, Senior, is an exceptional IT professional who (a) is technically proficient in a variety of network and technology disciplines, (b) has a strong aptitude and self-motivation to learn new things and mentor others, and (c) thrives on delivering results to enhance company performance.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Network Administration
•    Install and configure Network Systems according to company standards and industry/vendor best practices
•    Ensure the secure design, implementation, configuration, and performance of Network Systems 
•    Maintain, optimize, and troubleshoot proper operation and performance of Network Systems
Project Work 
•    Engage in project planning, analysis, architecture, design, delivery, and documentation of Network Systems
•    Recommend infrastructure improvements and engage in strategic planning of Network Systems and IT infrastructure
Unplanned Work
•    Respond with appropriate urgency to mitigate or resolve Network Systems incidents affecting the business
•    Perform root cause analysis, document findings, and recommend/implement improvements
•    Provide on call support as necessary to support business objectives
•    Serve the company as a member of a global, enterprise technology services team
•    Continually learn technologies and develop deep expertise in the suite of Network Systems we employ
•    Demonstrate strong character, technical competency, and a commitment to excellence
•    Take initiative to engage internal teams and vendors to quickly resolve incidents or meet project objectives
•    Adhere to company Change Management procedures
•    Participate in Disaster Recovery planning, documentation, and exercises
•    Communicate with colleagues, internal, and external customers in a courteous and professional manner
•    May lead the work and provide guidance to junior Network Analysts
•    Other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field

Minimum Work Experience:   Seven (7) or more years of experience providing technical support in a moderately complex IT environment with a focus on Network Systems (as defined above)

License(s) / Certification(s):  

•    Required:
o    Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) for Router and Switching
o    Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) for Router and Switching

•    Preferred:
o    Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) 
o    Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) for Cloud 
o      Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) for Cloud
o    Microsoft MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure
o    Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator
o    Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer
o    Prisma Certified Cloud Security Engineer

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•    Strong knowledge and understanding of:
o    TCP/IP protocols 
o    Networking concepts including VPN, DNS, IP addressing, switching, Routing (BGP, OSPF), load balancing, segmentation, virtualization, SD-WAN, NAC, NG Firewalls, WiFi, NPS, etc.
o    The OSI model and related concepts
o    Linux shell environments, scripting, and administration
o    Windows System Administration/Virtualization, scripting, and PowerShell
•    Strong experience in:
o    Administering infrastructure and Network Systems 
o    Troubleshooting at the expert level within complex network environments
o    Using networking tools including ping, tracert, Netmon, WireShark, nmap, etc.
o    Problem solving and troubleshooting with an ability to use various data collection tools and methodologies to analyze problems, determine root cause and develop solutions.
•    Generally.  Appropriate experience, education, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the Job Responsibilities described above.  Excellent customer service skills and the ability to demonstrate courtesy and professionalism with internal and external customers.  Ability to work independently with limited supervision and in a team environment.  Ability to travel as necessary (domestic and international).  Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance and work in a constant state of alertness.
•    Detail Oriented.  Must be a detail-oriented, be able to manage multiple priorities in an extremely fast paced environment, successfully manage multiple projects, and possess time management skills and the ability to prioritize work according to multiple criteria.
•    Communication Skills.  Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences. Advanced interpersonal skills to engage with peers, customers, and senior management.  
•    Security. Must be security-minded recognizing technical security risks and prioritizing escalations and incident response.
•    Technology.  Proficient in troubleshooting various Network Systems and technologies, interacting with technical vendors.  Must have the desire to seek knowledge and understand current and future technologies that will require Service Desk support.  Technical knowledge of modern desktop/laptop, and server operating systems and applications is required.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment with limited travel required.
