The Job:

You’ll be joining our Research Team with the objective of providing technology leadership and development of new, innovative & cutting edge technology. You’ll be tightly integrating with our Development Engineering Team and our Electrical Engineering Team to push the limits of how to grill & cook outdoors. On projects you work on, you own it – whether it is an exploratory early chat with designers, your time in the zone modelling CAD, cooking on prototypes in the lab or working out manufacturability with a factory, you will wear many hats and employ a broad skillset making you the go-to person for everything technical.

We’re looking for a creative, passionate Mechanical Engineer who thrives when working in a cross-functional team, has more ideas than can be put on paper and loves to hammer out details – all on a deadline. All this is done at our modern, open space office in between cookouts and team events.

  • Lead and carry out specific, innovative technology explorations in areas such as heat transfer, cooking effects, gas control and combustion, high temperature materials and electric heating including construction of concept demonstrator examples.

  • Address and solve long standing problems relating to generic materials, components, and systems utilizing creative synthesis of state-of-the-art technology and high-level functional requirements.

  • Devote significant time to study new appropriate technologies.

  • Work with outside technology suppliers to jointly develop new technology for application to appropriate products.

  • Challenge and recommend improvement in company management of technology in its relationship to the rest of the business.

  • Provide input to W.C. Bradley Legal team relative to IP of technologies developed inside and outside Char-Broil.

Your Skills:

  • Highly creative and curious mindset with ability to use both theoretical and practical means of exploration (design, build) and problem solving.

  • Passion for technology, invention & creative teamwork.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Science from an accredited 4-year college or university.

  • With at least 3 years of experience working in applied technology or related field, you know what to do.

  • You are skilled in designing parts and up to a full product in PTC Creo 4.0 (preferred) or similar 3D CAD system with most parts in sheet metal construction.

  • Proven ability to transfer technology from conceptual stage to product applicability.

  • Ability to communicate technology clearly to non-technical people orally and in writing.

  • Self-starter. Can turn a vague idea into a tangible design with limited input. The confidence to take a project and run with it and the humility to ask for help before it’s too late.

  • Innate ability to communicate and work in culturally and regionally diverse environments, teams and with overseas suppliers or 3rd parties.

  • You know how your parts are made. Manufacturing processes, materials and quality control is highly desired.

  • Here is how you can stand out. Familiarity and use experience of electronic control systems.
