EDI Technical Specialist

Job Summary

Support EDI efforts through process analysis and solution development specific to the integration with ERP systems.  Work closely with the leads of other application modules as well as with other teams within Information Technology.  Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and partner with the business users globally to understand and analyze existing business processes and ERP system interfaces, as well as aid in customer set ups/enhancements, system monitoring, and process improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engage with business users and serve as primary contact for technical EDI integration for all ERP systems globally with a focus on SAP
  • Work with internal and external partners to understand requests, gather requirements, and complete projects for all business applications
  • Monitor production support activities via web portals and ERP systems
  • Support day-to-day operational activities through resolution of service desk tickets as well as be the EDI interface expert for projects involving EDI
  • Maintain IDOC and EDI related configurations in SAP
  • Schedule jobs and debug issues in SAP
  • Partner with business teams to document technical requirements and scenarios/use cases
  • Analyze the business functionality and translate into interface requirements to assist in defining EDI integration requirements
  • Partner with technical teams to define, document and review the technical scope and objectives of each project on development and delivery of system changes across platforms
  • Build and execute testing scenarios (integration and user acceptance)
  • Assist in all EDI cutover activities following client copies and prior to any system go live
  • Assist in maintenance of current business application setup documents as well as documentations of methods and procedures related to core EDI business functions
  • Develop and present training materials for EDI functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field of study.

Minimum Experience:

  • Three (3) years of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) experience supporting complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions.

Licensure/Certification(s):

  • None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the ERP solution utilized.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange solutions (i.e., GXS/Open Text, B2B, EDIFACT, ANSI X12, SML and cXML)
  • Knowledge of EDI messages (i.e., 850, 855, 810, XML, SML, cXML and segments in IDOCs and EDI files.)
  • Knowledge of IT change management processes.
  • Proficiency supporting an ERP solution.
  • Proficiency using and understanding business acumen.
  • Proficiency using a Personal Computer (PC) to include Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to identify solutions.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in groups of internal and external peers at various levels.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to maintain information in a logical and easily understood manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Ability to create and maintain software documentation to include functional specifications, gap analysis, configuration, and test scripts.
  • Ability to translate technological needs to meet the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and designs to a non-technical savvy audience.
  • Ability to uses judgment to make recommendations for actions within an established framework of the area or for changes to established methods.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness. 

Physical Requirements

Normal office environment with up to 50% domestic and international travel required.
